The Benin Hydrocarbons Company (SOBEH) was created by Decree No. 2013 - 509 of December 24, 2013 approving its Statutes. These were amended and SOBEH is now called the National Hydrocarbons Company of Benin (SNH-BENIN) by Decree No. 2020-513 of October 28, 2020. It results from the institutional transformation of the Benin Hydrocarbons Office (OBH) and is placed under the supervision of the Ministry in charge of hydrocarbons. Being a state-owned enterprise, the National Hydrocarbons Company of Benin has an industrial and commercial character and is endowed with legal personality and financial autonomy. It is governed by Law No. 2020-20 of September 2, 2020 relating to the creation, organization and operation of public enterprises in the Republic of Benin. The main mission of SNH-BENIN is the technical control of the activities of oil companies operating in the Republic of Benin.
